Welcome to St John’s School, Silkwood – a co-educational primary school in the Diocese of Cairns. As a small Catholic school, St John’s offers a faith and values based education which focuses on the well-being of each individual child. This focus is achieved through explicit teaching of social emotional learning in a caring and supportive environment. Our school values its community-oriented approach to student wellbeing and family life.
Our Values
Principal's Message
A very warm welcome to the St John’s, Silkwood community! St John’s prides itself on the culture and traditions built over the years at the school. The school’s proud history began in 1948 when the school was by founded by Parish Priest Fr Alfred Natali and the Missionary Franciscan Sisters. We are a very welcoming community that believes that working together to achieve a common goal brings success for all. Our staff, students and parents remain focused on our sense of being a ‘learning community’ and are proud of their great achievements over the years.

What a busy day we had today! We wore our Crazy Socks to raise money for Catholic Mission. Yoa, from Catholic Mission, joined us at Assembly to explain how the money we raise is used. Yoa also brought VR goggles, which gave students the opportunity to see what it is like to live in Zambia. Thank you, Yoa!
We recognised our award winners, those having birthdays, our saints and our super saints. Congratulations to all students! You are awesome.
We spent time to remember Daniel Morcombe and the significance of Day for Daniel, and finally, we celebrated our wonderful teachers for World Teachers’ Day by treating them to a special lunch. We are so grateful for all they do to make our school great.
