In the teaching of Religious Education, St John’s adheres to the Religious Education Archdiocese of Brisbane source document. This encompasses two areas of religion: teaching people religion and teaching people to be religious.
Teaching people religion is the classroom teaching and learning of religion. It is an educational activity, aligned with other subjects of the Australian Curriculum. In developing students’ religious literacy, we aim to empower them to participate critically and effectively in contemporary society.
Teaching people to be religious focuses on the spiritual formation of students and their faith development. It is “teaching people to be religious in a particular way”. (Religious Education Archdiocese of Brisbane, 2013, p. 6)
The Sacramental Program at St John’s is parish-based and is offered biennially (odd years). Information about the program is released in the parish bulletin and the school newsletter.
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10)
