Congratulations to the students who competed at the Cassowary Coast Southern Zone Athletics Carnival last Friday. Your efforts and sportsmanship are commendable. A special congratulations to Victoria who placed first in the shot put and third in high jump. A mighty effort.

Last Saturday was our Parish/Whole School Mass for this term. The students did a lovely job of the readings and prayers, with a special mention for Fr Hilary whose anniversary falls around this time. It is always special when we gather together as a school and community. Well done everyone.

Yesterday, St John's School and Kindy students celebrated Science Week. The Prep and Kindy kids explored chemical reactions by making fizzy rainbows. The Year 1 - 6 students had lots of fun with:
~ engineering & environmental science by testing water filtration systems to see which item made the best filter.
~ biology and sensory science to try and determine what was causing the smell in different smelling pots.
~ looking at patterns in nature and in particular, symmetry with butterfly wings. They also showed their artistic flair by painting and folding butterflies to make identical wings.
There was so much fun and learning in every classroom. What a great way to spend science week.!!

Last Monday, St John's students had an afternoon of activities to celebrate and learn about Saint Mary Mackillop. We made gifts to give away, including lollypop flowers for our Kindy kids and colourful bookmarks for the elderly. They also had time to play tennis, with the older students helping the younger ones learn the skills of the game. It was a great and enjoyable afternoon for everyone. #stjohnssilkwood #MaryMacKillop
